Softball 9-10 Squad Suffers Ends Secton 3 Title Run
Esopus 17  Saugerties 3
Esopus won again today in part two of the Section 3 championship between these teams stopping what has been a tremedous run by the 9/10 Girls team.
Esopus hurler Alyssa Wilhelm was the story of the day as she gave up just 3 hits & struck out 6 in the 4 inning mercy rule shortened contest. Saugerties pitchers had another tough day on the hill combining for 15 walks while yielding just 4 hits.
Much like Saturday’s contest, the game was close after 1 and had the makings of a back and forth battle. Saugerties starter Darian Wood got out of early trouble in the 1st after walking Shannon Bonewit & Natalie Terrone. Bonewit advanced to third on the walk to Terrone but then was gunned down at the plate on a nifty 2-6-2 as Esopus attempted the double steal.
Saugerties jumped out to a 1-0 top of the second lead as a two-out walk to Wood and a single by Vanessa Brandt put Wood in postion to socre on a pass ball. Esopus came back heavy in its half of the second with a 10 run burst that would seal the victory. Esopus drew 8 walks in the frame while getting RBI singles from Bonewit and Terrone.
Skyler Sprance & Shaelyn Smith each had RBI singles in the loss for Saugerties. Kamryn Ilgner & Sarah Kopycinski scored the other two Saugerties runs.
Congratulations to Esopus as well as the Saugerties 9/10 squad for what has truly been an All-Star season.
