11-12 Girls Win District 15
SB-1112-Champs-webfront.jpg
Saugerties 5  Hudson 3
For the second time in two weeks, Marissa Hogan took the hill to beat Hudson. This time it was for all the marbles as Saugerties took home a District 15 crown for the second time in as many nights.
Hudson struck first when Ericka Scalera lead off the game with a walk that resulted in a run on a pass ball.  Saugerties evened things up in the bottom half of the 1st with a 2 out single by Hogan who would also score on a pass ball.
Saugerties tacked on 2 more runs in the 2nd when Karley O'Connor singled and scored on Phoebe Defino’s RBI ground ball.  Demi DeRosalia, who had drawn a free pass, scored on a RBI single by Lauren Costa giving Saugerties a 3-1 lead.
Saugerties struck again in the 3rd when Larissa Maier reached base on an overthrow and scored on a pass ball.  Jessica Miller singled in the inning.
After a scoreless 4th, Saugerties got an insurance run in the 5th when Maier singled and pinch runner DeRosalia was driven in on an RBI double delivered by O'Connor.  Solid pitching and defense by Saugerties held Hudson hitless and with only one run through the end of 5.
Hudson came alive in the top of the 6th with a walk to Lauren Bowes and a fielding miscue allowed pitcher Kelsey Alvarez to reach base.  With 2 outs, Alexis Peters connected for Hudson's sole hit of the game delivering a 2 RBI single and tightening the game at 5-3.  However, Hudson's rally ended when the next batter popped out to Costa at short for the game’s final out.
Hogan pitched a complete game, one hitter, with 8 strikeouts and only 4 walks for Saugerties. O’Connor led the offense with a single and a double. Maier and Miller added a single each in the victory.
Saugerties travels to face District 16 champ Kingston-American on Saturday, July 17th at 2:00 to start the first round of the Section 3 tournament.

Saugerties Befuddled by Lattin Language
Kingston 10  Saugerties 0
One night after Jessica Miller delivered a no hitter for Saugerties, Kingston hurler Olivia Lattin returned the favor with a no-hit performance of her own as Kingston won over Saugerties for the Section 3 title.
Kingston’s 3-4 tandem of Claudia Hommell and Logan Brennan did the major damage getting two hits each and accounting for 6 of the team’s 10 runs off of Saugerties starter Larissa Maier. Brennan followed up a Hommell single in the 1st with an in the park homer when she drove down the third base line that went to the wall. Though it never would have been predicted at the time, it turned out to be the game winning hit.
Down 6-0, Saugerties continued to battle. But Kingston’s offensive half of the 4th proved to be the final blow. Saugerties appeared to be in decent shape as a comebacker to Maier yielded a double play when she alertly flipped to Marissa Hogan snaring Alex Battista straying off of third. But soon thereafter, Saugerties committed three consecutive errors & gave up a walk that resulted in 4 more Kingston runs for the final 10-0 mercy rule margin.
Lattin’s bid for a perfect game was lost when she walked Marissa Hogan with two outs in the 4th with Kingston ahead 10-0. Maier showed valor in defeat striking out 4 and walking 3. Brennan went 2-3 with a homer and triple. Hommell was 2-3.
Congratulations on a great run girls. Both the Girls 11/12 and 9/10 squads brought home District Titles for the first time in at least 5 years (if anyone has records further back, please email us!) Nice work ladies.
Thanks to our Manager Jeff Hogan and Coach Donica Ball for your many hours of work and dedication this post season.

Miller No Hitter Keeps Section 3 Drive Alive
Saugerties 26  Gloversville 0
Jessica Miller cruised tonight over Gloversville with a no hit performance thanks to a liberal strike zone from a former SLL ump while the Saugerties offense put up 26 runs. It seemed like everyone either had a hit, a walk, or perhaps one of each, but no further stats were available at web time.
All joking aside, Jessica pitched great in the victory. Thanks to the Gloversville faithful for your patience; a team who traveled a good haul and put up with a lot. No umps, no ADA and a lengthy rain delay to boot.

Softball 11-12 Squad Suffers First Defeat of 2010 All-Star Season
Kingston American 15  Saugerties 0
District 15 winner Saugerties 11-12 girl's suffered its first loss of the post season by being mercy ruled 15-0 after 4 innings at the hands of a stacked District 16 Kingston American-Colonial team.
Kingston's Sarah Baganz walked and scored on an RBI single by Logan Brennan in the first inning to jump out to an early lead and

followed it with a 14 run second for the final number. The entire Kingston lineup was relentless in the 2nd tallying runs on numerous hits, Saugerties errors, walks, and some close calls that went in favor of Kingston.
Saugerties only managed to reach base twice during the game, a single in the first by Marissa Hogan and a walk in the fourth by Larissa Maier.  Hogan took the loss for Saugerties finishing with 1 strikeout, 4 walks, and 9 runs through 1 and 2/3 innings.  Karley O'Connor relieved Hogan in the 2nd but wasn't able to get into her typical zone allowing 5 walks.  Maier was then called upon and did a nice job getting Saugerties an elusive final out in the 2nd inning and then shutting them down in the 3rd inning with the help of a nice catch by right fielder Bianca Neglia.
Hats off to Kingston pitcher OIivia Lattin who threw a one-hit shut out with 7 strikeouts and only one walk in the shortened game.

O’Connor Deals 12-6 Win Sending 11-12 Squad to District Title Game
Saugerties 12  Chatham 6
Pitching was once again a mainstay in tonight’s Saugerties win over Chatham at Thornton Field but this time it was backed by a 12 hit attack as the Sawyer 11-12 Girls advanced to the District 15 Title game.
Karley O’Connor got the complete game win for Saugerties striking out 9 and giving up just 6 hits.
Saugerties jumped out of the gate in the first as Marissa Hogan tripled off Chatham starter Callie Buchan. Jessica Miller followed with a RBI single and the hit parade was soon to follow.
Chatham struck back to lead 2-1 after the top of the 2nd as Sadie Kratt hit a lead-off single and Katie Kraham walked. Buchan dropped a gorgeous RBI bunt to score Kratt & Kraham would score on a pass ball.
Saugerties batted around in its half of the 2nd as O’Connor led off with the first of her two doubles in the inning and came home on  Phoebe Defino’s RBI single. Page Dennis followed with a RBI hit and after consecutive Chatham errors, Hogan stroked a 2 RBI single that was followed by a RBI base hit from Larissa Maier giving Saugerties a 7-2 lead.
Down 12-3, Chatham put up 3 runs in its final at bat getting a 2 RBI single from Gabby Lifsec scoring a Buchan, who walked and Jessica Madsen, who reached on an error. Saugerties scored two in the 4th and 3 in the 5th.
Hogan led all hitters going 4-4 with 3RBI and 4 runs scored. Maier finished
2-3 with 3 RBI. Lauren Ball singled and scored 2 runs, Bianca Neglia doubled and scored. Chatham’s Alyssa Sirani picked up 3 of Chatham’s 6 hits going 3-3 with 3 singles.

Hogan Sails Over Hudson with No Hitter
Marissa Hogan pitched a complete game, no hit shut-out tonight striking out 15 in route to a 4-0 win over Hudson. Hudson threatened in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th by getting runners in scoring position off walks, however, the girls got out of trouble and held the runners every inning with timely defensive plays by Phoebe Defino at 2nd base.
Jessica Miller led the offensive attack with 2 singles and 2 RBI. Hogan helped herself with 2-RBI, a single and a run scored.  Lauren Ball was lightning on the base paths with 4 stolen bases, and 3 runs scored to compliment her base hit.  The hitting was rounded out with singles from Lauren Costa, Larissa Maier, and Paige Dennis.
Next Game is Friday July 9th @ Home on Thornton Field vs. Chatham
