_July 10, 2016,Catskill, NY, _

The Saugerties 9/10 Baseball went back-to-back tonight claiming the District 15 title in convincing fashion with a 10-2 victory over Catskill. The Sawyer squad went undefeated in the tournament besting Chatham, Catskill, Northern Columbia and Hudson.

Jace Van Valkenburg once again turned in a stellar performance on the mound for Saugerties pitching 4 shutout innings to seal the deal.

Saugerties, who won the coin toss and was home, set the tone early as Van Valkenburg struck out the side in the top half of the 1st. The Sawyers then scored 2 in the bottom half after a Ty Van Valkenburg walk and a Brady Reynolds single set the stage for J. Van Valkenburgs a RBI single. Owen Gallagher followed with a sacrifice fly to score Reynolds.

Saugerties would score twice in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd and 2 more in the 4th which was more than enough for J. Van Valkenburg who threw 5.1 innings of 3 hit ball yielding just 1 earned run, walking 2 and 12Ks.

Catskill scored one apiece int he 5th and 6th but the game was well in hand by that juncture. Reynolds led Saugerties with two hits and a RBI. T. Van Valkenburg (2B, 2RBI), Andrew Mulford (2B), Jacob Monroe (1B, RBI), Gallagher (1B, 2RBI) and J. VanValkenburg (1B, RBI) all contributed in the Saugerties offense.

Saugerties will begin Sectional play on July 16th playing District 16 and 17.

We apologize for the restrooms being out of order. 2 port-o-potty’s available for use by the small pavilion. We hope to rectify the plumbing situation quickly!
