Van Valkenburg Delivers Another Strong Start & Timely Hitting Delivers for Saugerties
Saugerties cruised 12-2 over Hudson on Sauer field tonight after a 6 run 4th inning burst ended the game via mercy rule.
Jace Van Valkenburg pitched 4 solid innings of 3 hit baseball picking up his second win of the tournament.
At the plate, Saugerties scored 3 in the first on hits by Ben Fox and Van Valkenburg. Adding 3 more in the 3rd proved to be more than enough with hits coming from Ethan Conrad (2B), Derek Wood (2B), Liam Curtis (1B) and Dalton Reynolds (1B).
The 6th run 4th featured hits from Ryan Curran, Conrad, Wood and Brady Reynolds who sealed the game driving in Wood on a poke to left.
Van Valkenburg finished with 5Ks and 4 walks.
Saugerties plays at Chatham Thursday night in a 5:45PM start time.
Behind another stellar pitching performance, Saugerties blanked Catskill tonight 5-0. It was Ethan Conrad and Michael Hunter this time around who provided the fire power on the hill as they combined on the 1-Hit shutout.
Ryan Curran delivered a single and the early 1-0 advantage for Saugerties after he advanced on a passed ball and later scored on hard shot by Jace Van Valkenburg to short that Catskill couldn’t come up with cleanly.
Starter Cullen Fulling kept Catskill in the game yielding only 3 hits through 3, however, Saugerties would tack on two in the 3rd via a Ben Fox walk, Curran single and RBI groundout from Dylan Sprance.
Fulling broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the 4th but the spark fizzled as Conrad settled in to pick up 2Ks and a pop-out. In the Saugerties half of the 4th, Owen Gallagher would reach on an error and score on a two-out base knock from Fox.
Curran collected two hits and scored twice. Conrad also scored for Saugerties. Conrad cruised through 4 innings striking out 8 and walking just 2. Hunter K’d 4 in two innings of relief while not allowing a base runner.
Through 2 games, Saugerties pitching has given up just one hit and has struck out 23. They play next at home on Tuesday the 30th against Hudson.
