The 11/12 baseball team needed a win over Hudson tonight to claim the District 15 title and they delivered in resounding fashion with 9-0 shutout.
Saugerties completed round robin play with a 4-0 record amassing 54 runs while allowing only 7.
Congratulations to all of the players and coaching staff on winning the 16th District 15 title in Saugerties Little League history.
Van Valkenburg Delivers Another Strong Start & Timely Hitting Delivers for Saugerties
Saugerties cruised 12-2 over Hudson on Sauer field tonight after a 6 run 4th inning burst ended the game via mercy rule.
Jace Van Valkenburg pitched 4 solid innings of 3 hit baseball picking up his second win of the tournament.
At the plate, Saugerties scored 3 in the first on hits by Ben Fox and Van Valkenburg. Adding 3 more in the 3rd proved to be more than enough with hits coming from Ethan Conrad (2B), Derek Wood (2B), Liam Curtis (1B) and Dalton Reynolds (1B).
The 6th run 4th featured hits from Ryan Curran, Conrad, Wood and Brady Reynolds who sealed the game driving in Wood on a poke to left.
Van Valkenburg finished with 5Ks and 4 walks.
Saugerties plays at Chatham Thursday night in a 5:45PM start time.
Behind another stellar pitching performance, Saugerties blanked Catskill tonight 5-0. It was Ethan Conrad and Michael Hunter this time around who provided the fire power on the hill as they combined on the 1-Hit shutout.
Ryan Curran delivered a single and the early 1-0 advantage for Saugerties after he advanced on a passed ball and later scored on hard shot by Jace Van Valkenburg to short that Catskill couldn’t come up with cleanly.
Starter Cullen Fulling kept Catskill in the game yielding only 3 hits through 3, however, Saugerties would tack on two in the 3rd via a Ben Fox walk, Curran single and RBI groundout from Dylan Sprance.
Fulling broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the 4th but the spark fizzled as Conrad settled in to pick up 2Ks and a pop-out. In the Saugerties half of the 4th, Owen Gallagher would reach on an error and score on a two-out base knock from Fox.
Curran collected two hits and scored twice. Conrad also scored for Saugerties. Conrad cruised through 4 innings striking out 8 and walking just 2. Hunter K’d 4 in two innings of relief while not allowing a base runner.
Through 2 games, Saugerties pitching has given up just one hit and has struck out 23. They play next at home on Tuesday the 30th against Hudson.
The Saugerties 11/12 Softball All Stars opened up its 2015 District 15 title run with a 9-3 victory over CYL tonight.
Saugerties turned a 4-3 lead into a 9-3 advantage late as CYL pitching ran out of gas. Samantha Larsen had a double, single and 2 RBI. Rayna Cooper and Amber Banas also doubled with Cooper picking up 2RBI in the process. Christie Collins scored 3 for Saugerties.
The tone was set early in the top half of the 1st tonight as Ethan Conrad crushed a long homer over the center field wall. It was all downhill from there as Saugerties pitchers Jace Van Valkenburg and Ryan Curran combined on a no hitter and a 13-1 victory over visiting Coxsackie.
Curran had an infield single to set the stage for Conrad’s two run jack on the first pitch he saw from Coxsackie’s Lance Hoover.
Van Valkenburg walked the leadoff batter in the top half of the first and then settled in to strike out the side. He followed suit in the second with 3Ks and walk. Curran threw 9 pitches in a scoreless 3rd with 2Ks. Coxsackie got its only run in the 4th after a Ryan Low walk and Saugerties error off the bat of Hoover to bring home Low.
Saugerties exploded for 9 runs in the third featuring two doubles by leadoff batter Ben Fox and two runs apiece scored by Fox and Curran.
Saugerties hitting combined for 12 hits while the pitching staff combined for 11Ks. The 9/10 squad plays at Catskill on Friday night 6/26.
