Senior Girls Rally Behind D to Beat Cairo in Game 1
Saugerties 7 - Cairo 5
Alongside a gritty pitching performance by Megan Terwilliger, Saugerties capitalized on several Cairo errors tonight and survived two late inning rallies to edge Cairo tonight 7-5. The game was highlighted by a mammoth Hannah Bagshaw homer over the center field wall and a stellar grab by Sydney Dennis to stymie a Cairo rally in the 6th that turned out to save the game.
Saugerties struck first when Darci Bittner drew a walk from Cairo starter Courtney Partridge and eventually scored after a steal and consecutive pass balls.
Cairo rallied in the second to go up 2-1 as Warner scored on a Schlewker RBI single and was promptly brought home on Zacchio’s double to the right field wall.
Bagshaw wowed the crowd capping a 4 run Saugerties rally in the 3rd by stinging a 1-2 fastball for a homerun. The Sawyers rally also featured runs by Dennis (1B), Maureen Ball (BB,PB) & Bittner (E3).
Down 7-3 in its half of the 6th, Cairo staged a two out rally getting two runners on board from a single & walk. But it was Dennis, on a full sprint in right, snaring a screaming Hoose drive that saved two runs. It turned out to be a game saver, as Cairo would plate two runs in its last at bat.
Slick fielding by Ball at short and two big K’s by Terwilliger ended Cairo’s final rally with two aboard in the 7th.
Dennis & Bittner each scored twice. Oksana Knisell also scored.
Terwilliger struck out 7, yielded 5 hits and walked 8 in the win. Partridge K’d 7 and gave up 3 hits and 7 walks in the loss.

Saugerties State Title Bid Comes to a Close
Havestraw  Saugerties 2
After going 3-1 in the first two rounds this past weekend, the Saugerties Little League Senior softball squad lost a close one to Havestraw tonight 5-2 in the New York State Girls Senior Softball final.
Havestraw plated two first inning runs off of Saugerties starter Taylor Snyder when Taylor Carretcha drew a leadoff walk and was brought home on a RBI double from Breanna Rivera. Rivera later scored on a pass ball. From those two runs on, both Snyder and Havestraw hurler Victoria Adams settled into a pitcher’s duel. Adams hurled a no-hitter through 3-2/3 striking out 6 in that span while Snyder would retire 14 of 15 batters faced.
Saugerties showed signs of breaking through as Magan Melville battled Adams in a 10 pitch at bat to finally broke up the no-hitter with double to right center with two outs in the 4th. As the game remained 2-0 moving to the bottom of the 5th, Saugerties found a spark in Melville's at bat as a Courtney O'Connor single, an Adams miscue and a clutch two out RBI single from Maureen Ball to made it a 2-1 game. Adams mistakenly through the ball on the mound and walked off thinking she had the third out (it was only 2)  allowing Saugerties special runner Sydney Dennis to advance to third base.
Havestraw came right back in its half of the 6th picking up 4 of its 9 total hits to score 2 more runs. The big blow came from Samantha Wagenstein who stroked a two RBI double.  Snyder and Donna Brocco got hits for Saugerties in the 6th but Havestraw was spared a run by a perfect 8-2 putout as Jones threw a strike to catch Brocco at the plate attempting to score from second. Saugerties picked up a RBI groundout by Hannah Bagshaw in the bottom of the 7th for the 2nd Saugerties run.
Congratulations to the Senior Girls & our coaches who did a tremendous job of preparing this team for a State Championship with no District & Section teams to play. Thanks Steve O’Connor, Bill Bagshaw and Frank Smedek.

Saugerties is Jazzed by Wilber’s No-Hitter
Senior Girls go to Hudson District 15 Championship Game
Amidst the rain and threat of more of it, Jasmine Wilber brought the thunder tonight throwing the second no-hitter of the tournament for the Girls Seniors for a 10-0 victory over Coxsackie. The girls advance to Hudson for Wednesday night’s District 15 championship game.
The most exciting play of the night was delivered by Angelina Fagerstrom in the 2nd. With two runers aboard, Fagerstrom hammered a Kelsey Haberman fastball down the left field line to the wall. Fagerstrom hustled for a triple and then challenged Coxsackie left fielder Alyssa Edward by rounding third and heading for home. Fagerstrom slid in safe at the plate, beating the relay, and was greeted by wild cheers from the home team fans.
Donna Brocco and Brittany Banks scored two runs each for Saugerties and Fagerstrom led the team by scoring 3. Wednesday night’s game starts at 8:30PM.

Senior Girls Win 3rd Consecutive District 15 Title
Saugerties 12 - Cairo 3
Saugerties jumped out to an early 6-0 lead tonight and left little margin for another Cairo comeback en route to its third consecutive District 15 title as well as a third straight trip to the New York State championship series.
Sydney Dennis led the offensive charge going 3-5 (2-1B, 3B) opening the game with the first of 6 1st inning hits off of Cairo starter Brittany Hoose. Dennis was followed by singles by Darci Bittner, a RBI double from Jasmine Wilber, and a two run single from Oksana Knisell. Megan Terwilliger & Dennis followed with two more base hits.
It proved to be more than plenty for Saugerties starting pitcher Megan Terwilliger.  Terwilliger scattered 8 hits and struck out 5 and was never really in danger.
Saugerties picked up two second inning runs on a Maureen Ball triple and Hannah Bagshaw sac fly to bring home Bittner. The 8-1 deficit prompted a Cairo pitching change to Courtney Partridge. Partridge seemed to right the ship for Cairo. She retired the side in the 2nd and held Saugerties scoreless until a 3 run, two out rally by Saugerties in the 6th put the game out of reach. Courtney O’Connor (3B, 1RBI) and Bagshaw (3B, 2RBI) fueled the 2 run 6th.
Saugerties moves on the NYS Senior Girls Softball Championships in Havestraw, NY.
